Congratulations to every contestant for sharing with us their backyard rink. Every entry was outstanding and choosing the winners was not an easy task again this year. A special thanks to our winner Bob Holland who came back a second year after rebuilding his rink and won. As you will see, each was unique and special in it's own way. Dear Jim,
We started our quest to have a home rink about six year's ago. Somehow through the wonders of the Internet I stumbled upon your company. I was in ice rink heaven. I said to my wife much to her dismay, here is all the stuff I need to make this work. We first started buying your products four winters ago. I design and build houses so in our new home a surface for an ice rink was a must! During construction our neighbors were under the illusion we were building a tennis court. We had ice at our new home before the house was done. We have a 40 X 80 asphalt surface with a curb and a drain in the center for roller hockey.
3rd Place
Mike and Nick Rezac, Lincoln, NB
This rink is 150 X 58 feet

Dear Mr. Hull and Nice Rink,
My 13 year old son, Nick, and I have been building our ice rink for 3 years. Two years ago we poured a concrete rink, 58' X 150' with concrete curbs. Openings in the curbs allow the rink to drain in the summer and by bolting bulkheads on the openings, it allows me to flood the rink in the winter. To blend with the neighborhood we used 6 foot green chain link fence with elevated nets on both ends. We also installed 8 inch boards running around the perimeter to play the puck off of.
Last year we built a 14' X 21' warming house with covered porches on the front and over the players bench. For heat we have both a fireplace and electric radiant heat. Our custom sound system has both interior and exterior speakers.
In the warm season, the Lincoln Blades use the rink for extra roller hockey practices and Saturday scimmages. In the winter the Lincoln Ice Hockey Association, bantam division, use the rink for extra ice time and The Saturday game, Sons vs. Dads. We have a lot of laughs and get to spend quality time with the kids.
