Dear Jim,
"I have been building a rink for my backyard for seven years, and have always dreamed of what I have now accomplished. The whole reason behind my ice rink was to give my children the opportunity to skate and play hockey, as they cannot afford the rising cost of youth hockey. Having played professional hockey myself, I am able to give free lessons to anyone who takes the school bus or is dropped off by his or her parents. On any given day, I will have 10 to 15 children living their dream. I tell everyone that if it's 40 degrees or below we have ice. The town of Kennebunk came and set the light poles and the local electric utility donated the lights.
The Seacoast Spartan Major A Pewee Team and the Girls Select High School Team practice at the rink."
3rd Place
Chuck Catsam,
Pomfret Ctr., CT
This rink is 120 X 60 feet

"This is a year round sports court, which is an ice rink. In off-season it will be a tennis court, basketball court, in-line rink, volleyball court and general playground for the kids. An exceptional lighting system using low-mount poles with 6, one thousand watt metal halide lamps running at 240 volts. They provide a very bright, even light with an unanticipated but beautiful tower of reflected light up the surrounding 60 foot trees. There is very peaceful, secluded feeling as the rink is carved out of a woodland adjacent to a hillside pasture. This also provides protection from the wind and sun. "
